Portwood Shower Door Installation

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Can the Delta® Portwood shower door system be installed without studs?

A: No. The Delta® Portwood glass shower door system must be installed into studs. If you don’t have wall studs, consider the Delta® Ashmore shower door system or Delta® Ashmore bathtub shower, that doesn’t require studs.

Q: What if my walls are not plumb or exceed the 3/8-inch (0.95 cm) out-of-plumb range?

A: First, determine how far out of plumb the walls are, using our simple How To Measure Guide (Step 2). Offset adjustments can be made via the inside and outside door roller assemblies to align the doors if the difference is less than 3/8 inch (0.95 cm).

If your out-of-plumb conditions exceed 3/8 inch (0.95 cm), you should not install this shower door system.

Q: How should the center guide be secured, especially with metal or acrylic tubs?

A: For acrylic tubs, securing the center guide is simple: just use the screws included in your parts package. This part of the installation is covered on Page 13, Steps 12 for placement, and installation on Pages 15 - 17, Steps 15 - 19.

If you have a metal tub, you’ll need a few extra items: screws and a drill bit made for metal surfaces. Before you start, check your tub’s warranty to make sure drilling won’t void it.

Not sure about drilling into metal? No problem, we’re here to help. Contact us to explore other installation options that might work better for your setup.

Q: Will the Delta® Portwood shower door fit a tile or fiberglass shower enclosure?

A: Yes. The Delta® Portwood shower door system works with both tile and fiberglass or acrylic enclosures, if your finished opening falls within the size range.

Always check the installation instructions. Be sure to measure your shower door opening carefully before purchasing.
