Q: What is the difference between hinge and pivot shower doors?

A: Both hinge and pivot shower doors let you swing the door open, but they install and work a little differently.

A hinge shower door opens like a traditional door. It’s attached to the wall with hinges – usually at the top and bottom – and swings outward. 

A pivot shower door also swings open, but it rotates on a pivot point at the top and bottom of the door. This design can sometimes be installed without needing to anchor into wall studs, which gives you a bit more flexibility depending on your bathroom setup.

In short, hinge doors swing from the side, and pivot doors swing from a central point. Both are great glass shower door options, depending on your style and enclosure area.
